Nuclear deal: in the headlines again

Friday, October 20th, 2017

Last week, US President Donald Trump declined to certify that Tehran was complying with the terms of a landmark 2015 agreement aimed at controlling Iran's nuclear programme. Mr Trump said Iran had violated the terms of the deal and he wanted to see the agreement toughened.

Mr Trump announced treasury department sanctions on Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards and called for restrictions on Iran's ballistic missile programme.

The US Congress requires the president to certify every 90 days that Iran is upholding its part of the agreement. Congress now has 60 days to decide whether to pull out of the nuclear deal by re-imposing sanctions.

Iran’s Supreme Leader has since declared that if Washington pulls out, Iran will shred the deal entirely.

Please pray for the US Congress as they consider this matter, and for peace in the region.

1 Timothy 2:1-3
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Saviour…
