For over 15 years Elam Ministries has been supporting relief and development work in the Iran Region. Due to the many close friends Elam has in the region, the ministry has often been able to bring speedy help to a disaster spot. Also because the ministry is staffed by people from the region, Elam has been able to provice much more than material support.
Below are some of the highlights of the last 15 years -
Iran:
• Supported persecuted Christians and the families of the martyrs in Iran.
• Repaired a church and built two elementary schools after they were destroyed by the 1990 earthquake in Iran at a cost of half a million dollars.
• Provided 15,000 Kurdish Refugees in Iran with one hot meal a day for two months and provided medical help after the Gulf War.
• Began small scale income generation projects to enable Christian to become self supporting.
Afghanistan:
• Provided relief supplies to 15,000 Afghan Refugees from November 2001 to June 2002 and built 20 water wells for suffering Afghans in the Zaranj region Afghanistan.
Armenia:
• Provided 30,000 families in Armenia with food during the winter months for three years after devastation by an earthquake and war.
• Begun a small loan income generation project that has helped 500 families to date.
Turkey:
• Provided relief supplies to 400 Iranian refugees in response to the Turkish earthquake in 1999.
Kazakhstan:
• Provided help to establish a safe and secure drop in centre for street children in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in partnership with a local ministry.
