Mina* was a brand new Christian. She'd become pregnant out of wedlock and her living conditions were dire. She phoned Elam, and said, "I am seriously considering abortion, but what does the Word of God say about it?" Mojdeh, Elam's head of women's ministry, shared about the Bible's passion for the sanctity of human life, and also from her medical knowledge. Soon Mina was in tears and cried, "If I had known I would never have considered having an abortion." Mina's response was immediate obedience, and the baby's life was spared.
Another Iranian lady, Shirin*, telephoned Mojdeh from Tehran just two weeks later. She and her husband were new believers who planned to serve the Lord, but had discovered Shirin was unexpectedly pregnant. They'd assumed abortion was all right for Christians and planned one - so they could serve God! Confused about what to do, Shirin told Mojdeh, "I'm having an abortion later today, but my husband and I are praying and fasting to know what the Lord says about this matter." Mojdeh explained the Biblical position and also shared Mina's story. Before praying for her, Mojdeh said, "If you want to serve the Lord, remember this child could potentially be a servant of God." Again a precious baby's life was spared.
Mojdeh rejoiced that the Lord had used her to save two lives! Not long after, Mojdeh received a wedding invitation from Mina who is now married to the father of the child.
Elam is determined to campaign against abortion and is working on producing hard hitting material to help educate Iranian women on the Christian view of abortion. Please pray for women like Mina and Shirin who need to be taught the truth.
