How my heart has gone out to the people of Van who lost everything in the October earthquake. I am so glad our church building has been used as a center to provide relief. A big thank to all who sent funds.
Immediately after the quake fifty people came and lived in the church. We've helped feed nearly 12,000 people one hot meal a day. About 100 meals were served in the church, and another 500 - 600 were delivered by car. We are determined to continue the distribution of hot meals from the church premises for as long as necessary. Fifty tents and a hundred blankets were given out to those without shelter.
This has been a time of witness. People who had never met Christians before, have now come and been fed and comforted.
Since the earthquake, we've been working closely with the mayor. We are in discussions about how to provide pre-fabricated shelters, and there is an urgent need for maintenance work on the water system. If you have any expertise in these areas, please get in touch.
