Amid serious coronavirus outbreak, Iran needs our prayers

Friday, February 28th, 2020
Dear friends,

You've likely heard that Iran has been hit with an outbreak of the coronavirus.

I want to ask you to pray with us for this situation, which is having a significant impact on Iranian society as a whole, as well as on the church.

While Iran's government has acknowledged 139 cases of infection and 19 deaths, from our people on the ground, we are aware that the outbreak is far more serious than is being reported. At one hospital alone, hundreds have tested positive and at least 12 have died.

We have heard reports of overcrowded hospitals, numerous medical personnel infected, and dwindling medical supplies. Many public places, including schools and universities, have been closed and an atmosphere of fear pervades.

Many house churches will not be meeting in person over the coming weeks in an effort to limit the spread of the virus. They will instead be meeting online for Bible teaching, prayer, worship and fellowship.

Can I ask you to pray that believers across Iran would know how to follow Christ even more closely, and that they would shine His light as the nation faces this new challenge?

Over the years we have seen the Father at work in Iran amid many difficult circumstances. We are trusting that, once again, God will somehow turn this situation for good and His glory.

Please pray for:
  • The recovery of the sick and comfort for those mourning the loss of loved ones;
  • Wise decisions and transparency from Iran's health ministry as they seek to contain the outbreak;
  • New doors to open for sharing the hope of the Gospel amid the outbreak.
Grace and peace,

David Yeghnazar
