It’s getting worse: more arrests and reports of executions

Tuesday, April 05th, 2011

Various websites have reported that Adiva Mirza Soleiman Kalimi, a Jewish Iranian, and her husband Varoujan Petrosian, an Armenian Iranian Christian, were executed in Tehran's Evin Prison, probably on Sunday 12th or Monday 13th March. It is reported three others were also executed. There is no confirmation as to whether the victims were active Christians or not. Indeed there is no information available regarding the crimes of those killed.

There are also reports of more arrests. On March 17th ten Christians were taken in for questioning in Kermanshah. Seven were released, but three, Meghdad Babakarami and a couple, Nahid Shirazi and Masoud Delijani are still in prison. And up to five Christians arrested in June in Shiraz are said to be due to face a trial for blasphemy soon.

As news from Libya and other Middle Eastern countries in turmoil continue to dominate the air waves, it is important that the plight of Christians being persecuted for their faith in Iran is not forgotten.

Pray for

  • Comfort for families of those executed
  • Swift release of all innocent Christians imprisoned
  • End of policy of persecution
