In May, Iranians will go to the polls to elect their president for the next four-year term. Although the president has less authority than the Supreme Leader, he does have significant sway in some areas. So the pending vote could profoundly affect the lives of ordinary Iranians, including underground Christian believers.
Each presidential candidate will be vetted by Iran’s Guardian Council during April. A handful will be approved. The current president, Rouhani, will be among them. But influential, hard-line voices are demanding someone more conservative.
In 1 Timothy 2, God commands us to pray for those in authority ‘that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness’. Let’s pray for those in authority in Iran, especially during the approaching season of political change.
Please pray for salvation for Iran’s leaders, and for God to raise up Cyrus-es for Iran.
Please pray for more Iranians to turn to Jesus as Lord during these days of uncertainty.
