Suffering But Growing Church

Nomadic Christians, taking the gospel wherever they go

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

Every night a nomadic family of seven gathers together outside their tent to hear the youngest daughter read the Bible aloud –she is the only literate member of the family. When she is finished the family prays to Jesus together under the stars. This nomad family accepted Christ as their Lord a few years ago when they arrived at a village to put their animals to pasture for a season. It was a village they journeyed to at the same time every year, but on that occasion they soon noticed something had changed. For a start, they were charged much less rent than usual, and in addition, for the first time they were given access to the landowner's well. Upon enquiring about these unexpected benefits, the landowner explained that he had become a Christian and he shared the gospel with them. By the time the family left the village, they too had surrendered their hearts to Christ. They now carry the gospel with them wherever they travel. Iran has one of the largest nomadic populations in the world: an estimated 1.5 million in a country of about 70 million. They include peoples such as the Bakhtiari and the Turkic Qashqai. Not many of Iran’s nomadic people are known to have come to faith in Christ. Living cut off from mainstream society, means that reaching them with the gospel has been challenging. Let us pray that many more will come to faith in Christ and for blessing on those who are reaching out to Iran’s nomadic people. Pray for •The nomadic family to remain strong in their faith •Many nomadic people groups to be introduced to Christ •For wisdom and encouragement for those reaching out to nomads
