60-year-old pastor still in prison

Friday, January 30, 2015

Sixty-year-old Pastor Victor Bet-Tamraz has been in Evin prison for over six weeks. On December 26, a Christmas celebration in the pastor’s home was interrupted by Intelligence agents.  Pastor Victor, who suffers with diabetes, was arrested and is believed to remain in Evin prison to this day. It is highly likely that he has been undergoing regular interrogations. About 15 believers were present at Pastor Victor’s Christmas celebration, and all were detained: body searches were conducted and Bibles, mobile phones and identity papers were confiscated.  Most people were later released with the warning that they may be summoned for further investigation. However, Pastor Victor and another believer, Amin are thought to remain detained. Pastor Victor is a very well respected pastor of Assyrian ethnicity, and the former leader of the Assyrian Pentecostal Church in Tehran.  He came under severe pressure in 2009, when the authorities closed the Assyrian Pentecostal Church because Pastor Victor refused to cease welcoming people from a Muslim background to the church. The church was later re-opened under different leadership. Pastor Victor has a strong faith in Christ, which has sustained him through persecution he has faced previously; please pray that he would continue to trust and rely on Jesus during these very difficult days, however many they may be. Pray for Victor’s peace and wellbeing Justice in his case His persecutors
