Feeling the anger of the crowd; disunity in their own ranks
Tuesday, July 7, 2009
The institutions of Iran have been shaken by the anger of the crowd and the fierce criticism from senior figures within the establishment such as Hashemi Rafsanjani, a former president, and Ayatollah Hossein-Ali Montazeri, who both oppose to the re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Most Iran watchers believe the divisions on the street and in government are too wide to be reconciled. Ordinary Iranians are furious at the way they have been viciously treated, and many within the regime are refusing to show their support for Ahmadinejad. While the authorities may contain the protests, they cannot drain away this anger.
It is an explosive situation which has already claimed the lives of at least twenty people. It could deteriorate into anarchy. Christians must interced against all violence from wherever it arises. And there must be fervent prayer that Iran’s rulers would seek peace with their opponents, and justice for their people, so that ordinary Iranians can live safely and without fear of unfair treatment.
Pray for
Forces of violence to be restrained
The families of those already killed
The institutions to give peace and security to all Iranians
