Free Farshid: Many join the campaign
Tuesday, April 2, 2013
Pastor Farshid Fathi has now been detained for more than two years and three months: that’s more than 822 days spent inside Iran’s brutal Evin prison.
With no signs that the Iranian government will be lenient and shorten the unjust six-year sentence handed down for simply practicing his Christian faith, Elam is continuing advocacy efforts to secure an early release for Farshid.
The Free Farshid Campaign has kicked off with a UK parliamentary Early Day Motion (EDM), with the goal of encouraging the UK government to boldly speak up on behalf of Farshid. Sixty-six MPs have signed the EDM so far, and many have written directly to the Foreign Office to express their concerns. Very few EDM’s attract this much attention, so Farshid is now a high priority for the Foreign Office. The sincere concern for Farshid was highlighted when a plea for Farshid’s freedom appeared in The Times last week; it was signed by many high profile members of the House of Lords and the House of Commons. Elam is also encouraging governments and churches further afield to act and pray.
Wherever you are in the world, please write to your representatives to put Farshid on your government’s agenda.
You can follow the campaign at www.freefarshid.org and on social media: www.twitter.com/FreeFarshid and www.facebook.com/FreeFarshid. Please share with your church and friends.
Pray for
•Open ears and hearts for all policy-makers to whom Elam speaks
•Praise God that Farshid continues to be a shining light whilst incarcerated
•Farshid and his family to be encouraged and strengthened by global support
