As news of the arrests of Christians in Iran has spread, so the world-wide church has lifted her voice in prayer. The Lausanne Conference, representing the world’s one billion evangelicals and Charismatics, has issued a strong statement of support for the arrested and urged Christians to pray. Elam Ministries has received numerous messages of support from over forty different countries, from every continent. All are praying. Leaders of the mainline denominations such as the Baptists, the Methodists, the Presbyterians have all called on their members to pray. Vatican Radio has also broadcast an extensive interview on the arrests.The English revivalist John Wesley said, ‘God does nothing except in answer to prayer’. He knew prayer was a real power. Most of us can do nothing to relieve the immediate suffering of Iranian Christians, or the lack of religious freedom in Iran – except pray.
