Nuclear talks Baghdad May 23rd: diplomats need our prayers now

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

Tomorrow (May 23rd 2012) diplomats gather in Baghdad to try and resolve the ongoing tension over Iran’s nuclear programme. They need our intense intercession. For this is an absolutely crucial meeting for the lives of millions of people in the Middle East and beyond. The team from the UN Security Council, plus Germany, led by Catherine Ashton needs heavenly wisdom to know how to negotiate in a way that ensures security for the region. The team from Tehran, led by Saeed Jalilee, needs reassurance regarding Iran’s security and economic concerns, as well as recognition of the country’s role in the region. Both sets of diplomats have voices off stage that suggest war is a more appropriate response. It is therefore imperative the diplomats can return to these constituencies with a deal which is visibly robust and with no hint of naivety or compromise. A very positive sign is that after yesterday’s visit to Tehran by Yukiya Amano, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iran has indicated that it will allow thorough inspections of its nuclear programme to begin again. Iran 30 has constantly been calling on Christians to pray for God to protect Iran and the Middle East from war. We would ask believers to make an extra effort tonight to pray for the meetings tomorrow. Pray for •God’s presence at the meeting •Catherine Ahston, Saeed Jalili and their teams to have wisdom •Every country’s legitimate security concerns to be met
